Welcome to ENGL 1102 2:30 class!

Hello, World!

Welcome to our ENGL 1102 class blog site.  We invite you to think about Spatial Justice with us this semester as we read and write about spaces in American Culture.

We are reading three books and one movie.  Our books are:  The House on Mango Street (by Sandra Cisneros), Don’t Call Us Dead (by Danez Smith), and Becoming (by Michele Obama).  We haven’t chosen our movie yet.  We are using these texts to explore the ways that physical spaces shape us, hold us in or out, and become markers of what we are able to achieve.  It should be an interesting semester.

Remember that we are students who are using this semester to sharpen our communication skills, so sometimes our writing is still in process, an idea that Obama embraces in her book.  We are becoming who we will be.

Blog 10 (the end)

The part of the journey is the end. This class helped me so much in writing just like last years class. When I write now I feel like i know what im talkin about now . Its little bit more easier to come up wit more ideas now when writing. The only thing i gotta work on is the starting of writting assigment because after that i can fiish the assignment easy.

I like the fourth assignment because it was movie review and your thought on a subject that is easier to comprehend. I gotta work on my writing in terms of doing research papers and annotated biblography but i will learn. It was mostly tho. Im just a hard head when comes to doing assignments on time.

But I will work on that. I jus need to find the motivation to do so. Ill be great in the future because of this class and I appreciate that. You are a great teacher I wish there were more like u. Your a teacher who cares about there students learning abilties. Your the greatest!!!!!!

Blog 10 Reflection

Throughout this semester I’ve come to actually enjoy writing more because of this class which is different for me because my whole school life English has always been my worst subject. Honestly if it wasn’t for Dr. Perry I would not have not have been as comfortable with my writing today. I went into this class nervous because last semester I got a C in my first English class. I think what also got me involved in this class was the topics we focused on could relate to mostly everyone in this class.

Having our project topics be relatable helped me make all my essays more personal. My top two essays and books I enjoyed wiritng was The House on Mango Street, and Becoming. THOMS was a great way to start off, we had to write about of identity whether or not it was based on our georgraphy. The book was enjoyable as well because we could view someones else life through their eyes. Becoming inspired my topic to be on gentrification which was the perfect topic for me because that i was my favorite paper to write out of all our projects even though it was the longest and most challenging.

Blogging through this course was a task at first that i did not like or saw the purpose of doing it. At first i thought it was soley due to the fact that this was a english class. My mind changed when my grades started to imporve because i was writing more. I relaized that blogging made me a better witer overall. If i could go back and change anything about this class i certainly would not. I am grateful for this experience beacuse it made me a better student.

As this semester comes to an end, I can say that I’ve learned new things that I can take with me in the future. I got to hear others’ personal experiences with real world problems and I’ve learned that there are different way to handle them. I was not close to anyone, but I enjoyed my time in the classroom. I’ve never blogged or anything like that before, so this is new for me. I got the chance to express my thoughts on assignments given in class and I got the opportunity to see others do the same. My professor used her energy to spread across the room and everyone followed. I enjoyed the opportunity to do things differently and I will keep these things as a guide as time goes on.

The Matrix

The Matrix is one of my favorite movies. The simulation theory is something I could talk about all day which is why I chose this movie for my paper. It can be confusing at first, but once you understand the simulation theory, you’ll understand the movie.

Freewrite

This year has been full of growth yet some events seem to make me feel as though the world is backtracking. Events that happen far from me seem to be moving closer every day. Nevertheless, I have no choice but to remain positive and to finish everything I’ve started.

The Racism Treadmill

I feel as though this essay from Colin Hughes should get more publicity for what it is and what it’s talking about. Racism has haunted people of color for centuries and is still persistent in today’s society. I believe it is vital that more people read this essay.
