YES, READ BECOMING!

Why should you read this book? Well, the obvious answer is if you are interested in Michelle Obama’s and want to get to know her on a profound level. Its an autobiography ALL about her so it should be pretty straight forward when you look at the book cover to know what’s inside. Even if you are not a big fan of autobiography books, Becoming is a great book to read as she tells fascinating stories about her life that get you hooked. If you love to laugh, cry, and smile when you are reading or even listening to anything, I encourage you to read Becoming! I would especially recommend this book to those people who aren’t a fan of the Obama’s; Why? Because although you may not be a fan, you may not know them well enough to see how great and how much they have got through before and after the campaigns. If you would give this book a chance, you will immediately notice how normal the Obama’s really are. You may not take my word from it, but I would say this; I honestly do not like reading period, but when I read this book its not anything that will bore you since every chapter has an exciting story to change your view on Michelle and the Obama’s.

Becoming by Michelle Obama

Becoming by Michelle Obama. What do I think of the book so far? It’s boring… NOO I’m only kidding! I’m starting to see myself enjoy this book more and more every-time I hit play on my audiobook. When you read this book, you are taken back in time and relive her life as if you were there. Michelle makes you feel as if you’re part of her family because of how much you can relate to her family problems. Although I would not relate at all to someone in the law business as she was a lawyer, I can really dig into her life and see how much we do have in common. For Example, Like how she mentions that she hated working as a lawyer because of how much stress it caused her, this resulted in her looking for a new profession. I relate to her in that way because I feel as if I’m stressing out about balancing school, work, and personal time all at once. I’m truly enjoying this book so far because its the first book to actually have me scared and have me feeling her emotions when she talks about loved ones passing away, such as her close friend Susan passing away due to lymphoma, or how her father would tragically pass as well. These two scenarios really had me at the edge of my seat, got my heart beating because it was so surreal as if you knew these people. Although it is truly sad, I find myself still reading this book with interest, maybe because I want to see how Michelle found happiness even after her losses. If I were to be asked by someone interested in buying this book, I would definitely give that person a solid YES, but would really recommend in purchasing the audiobook since I feel listening to Michelle read her stories is just a bonus to me! I’m sure everyone else is enjoying this book as much as I am 🙂 Well anyways, I have to get back to reading…so BYE for now!

“Don’t Call us Dead” – Reaction

Before I even read/listened to the poems In “Don’t call us Dead” by Danez Smith, I honestly did not know what I was expecting, and I’m sure I’m not the only one in my class who thought the same. I can not say I am a fan of poems, especially ones that tend to not rhyme as much as I’m used to, but I did not dislike reading these by Mr. Smith. Danez Smith did not hold back on his emotions when he wrote these poems; you can hear the anger he has towards “White America” and how he feels like a victim of being stereotyped along with the black community. This kind of emotion he emits when your both reading and listening to his poems are the emotions that grab your attention and make you want to understand the meaning of what he says.

Danez Smith although being a black gay man, I could feel myself really relating to what he says at times when he does mention all the discrimination and injustice that people of color face. I also felt relieved to have known what movies he actually mentions in his poems as well. This feeling of relating to a book really helped keep me motivated to actually finish the book. I found myself really satisfied with how great the poems were and do not dislike anything from it!

Who Am I?

Hello! My name is Carlos, much like many of you reading this I am a student at Georgia State perimeter, currently majoring in Nursing. Why Nursing? Well, one of two reasons is that I enjoy helping others out. I think of myself as a very kind individual. The second, because I would like to be able to take care of my family’s well being, specifically my diabetic father. I am 20 years old, 21 in May, and I am the oldest of 3. I wouldn’t call my younger siblings little anymore as they both are taller than me… sigh. I am a short individual, only 5’6; I would’ve liked to have had my grandfathers height at 6’0. Although I do seem to complain a lot about myself, I really do love the way I look!

I was born in Atlanta, Ga on a beautiful Wednesday, May 13th, 1998. I’ve never lived anywhere outside of the state of Georgia, mainly because the close friends and family I have here. Raised by my Mexican parents I inherited the Mexican culture, so I do enjoy lots of spicy foods, corn tortillas, Molé, enchiladas, and all that good stuff. I also really love my American foods like a classic burger and fries, steak and Texas toast, and yes, pizza! I love being able to speak both languages fluently and confidently, and also enjoy the holidays that come with both cultures, so I got presents on Christmas and more presents on Dia de Los Reyes too!

When I’m not at school, I am at the gym, out with friends/family, or at home working on homework. I honestly don’t like to go out partying (unless its family/friends related), I’m really introverted. I hate the taste of alcohol, and I don’t smoke. I think of myself as an active person, I like soccer or in Spanish “Futbol” (GO ATLANTA UNTD!), and I do really enjoy nature hikes. I was raised a Catholic Christian, but I feel terrible admitting that because I have not been to church in a while :/ ( I promise I’ll go to church soon!). I like to jam in my car to loud music, and I don’t really have a favorite genre as I listen to anything BUT country… sorry not sorry, It just never really interested me. Anyways, I apologize if my blog was rather dull to you the reader but this just a bit of who I am.
