Who Am I?

Hello! My name is Carlos, much like many of you reading this I am a student at Georgia State perimeter, currently majoring in Nursing. Why Nursing? Well, one of two reasons is that I enjoy helping others out. I think of myself as a very kind individual. The second, because I would like to be able to take care of my family’s well being, specifically my diabetic father. I am 20 years old, 21 in May, and I am the oldest of 3. I wouldn’t call my younger siblings little anymore as they both are taller than me… sigh. I am a short individual, only 5’6; I would’ve liked to have had my grandfathers height at 6’0. Although I do seem to complain a lot about myself, I really do love the way I look!

I was born in Atlanta, Ga on a beautiful Wednesday, May 13th, 1998. I’ve never lived anywhere outside of the state of Georgia, mainly because the close friends and family I have here. Raised by my Mexican parents I inherited the Mexican culture, so I do enjoy lots of spicy foods, corn tortillas, Molé, enchiladas, and all that good stuff. I also really love my American foods like a classic burger and fries, steak and Texas toast, and yes, pizza! I love being able to speak both languages fluently and confidently, and also enjoy the holidays that come with both cultures, so I got presents on Christmas and more presents on Dia de Los Reyes too!

When I’m not at school, I am at the gym, out with friends/family, or at home working on homework. I honestly don’t like to go out partying (unless its family/friends related), I’m really introverted. I hate the taste of alcohol, and I don’t smoke. I think of myself as an active person, I like soccer or in Spanish “Futbol” (GO ATLANTA UNTD!), and I do really enjoy nature hikes. I was raised a Catholic Christian, but I feel terrible admitting that because I have not been to church in a while :/ ( I promise I’ll go to church soon!). I like to jam in my car to loud music, and I don’t really have a favorite genre as I listen to anything BUT country… sorry not sorry, It just never really interested me. Anyways, I apologize if my blog was rather dull to you the reader but this just a bit of who I am.

Blog 1

Hello, my name is Jordan Lajuane Givens. I have two brothers and one sister. One of my brothers go to high school and the other one is in middle school. My sister graduated from high school but now she is doing her own thing. My favorite rapper is Drake and favorite sports icon is Lebron James. I like to play video games like 2k and Madden because I’m pretty much a god at those games and nobody can touch me in it SIMPLE.

I started listening to Drake by his “If You’re Reading This Its Too Late” album. That album came out when I was a freshman in high school so about early 2015 close to the end of 9th grade is when I started to listen to him. Lebron James is the God of basketball and to me, he is better than Michael Jordan just based on statistics. He’s really the greatest to ever do it but that’s just me.

I’ve never worked a day in my life because I don’t think you should dress accordingly for a job where your only making minimum wage, it’s pointless to me. Also, I’m just blessed enough not needing or having to work. I’m a nerd when it comes to Marvel and DC because I love the fantasy of superheroes and villains. Another thing about me is I don’t care about what anybody has to say about me because at the end of the day I’m blessed to be me.

Who am I?

My name is Shyiere Murphy and I am a freshman majoring in Computer Science. I am a transfer student from Savannah State University. I graduated from Miller Grove High School in May of 2018.  With my degree, I plan to work for Google in Canada in the near future. I also play soccer and have hopes of going overseas.
I was born in Indianapolis on February 6th, 2000. After 3 months, my mom moved me and my older sister and brother to Tallahassee, Florida. I don’t know much about Indiana, but that it’s boring and there are a lot of fields. I’ve only been a few times, but I’m not planning on going back. Florida is what I call my first home.
I played football, wrestling, and soccer through high school. I still enjoy playing soccer every day and I watch it in my free time. My favorite soccer teams are Atlanta United and Paris Saint-Germain. I enjoy going to the Atlanta United games because it reminds me of where I dream to be.

All about me :)

Elise Madison Hill is the name my mother and aunt gave me. At first my name WAS going to be Madison Elise, but my aunt said that didn’t sound right so my mom just switched it around. I believe it was around 6:30 in the morning on October 18th when I made my very first appearance. My mom was on her way to the hospital, but clearly, I couldn’t wait to meet her. My mother told me that my grandmother rushed to her house as soon as my mom told her she was in labor.  The firefighters (crazy but my uncle was on call that night… and guess who showed up 😊) and EMTs are all outside the house, people are talking and making noise, but my mom surprisingly calm (from what my grandma told me). Long story short I show up with a veil over my face. Many people believe that when a baby is born with a veil is a sign of special destiny and psychic abilities or good luck. I’m going to let you know now, lol I don’t have ANY psychic abilities, nor have I hit the lottery 😊

Only child syndrome is the MYTH that children are lonely, selfish, spoiled and impatient. By saying that, Yes, I am on only child and no I’m not spoiled or selfish or lonely.  #Throwback In 3rd grade this boy stood up on a table (he got in trouble for me) just so I would smile.  And at parent teacher meetings my teacher Ms. Taylor said she lets me do whatever I want to do in her class because she’s an only child too.  Anyways back to the point. BLAH BLACK only child this only child that. Some say I’m lucky and others feel bad for me because they believe that I was a lonely boring child. Even though that is only haft true I feel like my mom, dad and family did a great job raising me.

A lot of people say I have a RBF (I’m going to let you look that up on your on time) others say I look really mean/mad. Deep down I’m probably thinking about what my dog is doing or pizza.  I’m honestly the goofiest and funniest person I’ve ever met.  You have to get to know me, well honestly you can just say “ Hey” and I’ll start laughing or smiling. I mean other than my RBF I’m a cool person to hang out with ( wink wink) .

Hello English Composition 1102 class and people of the internwebs.

My name is Ashley Harding. I am 27 years young and was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I am working toward my Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geoscience from Georgia State University. I am a person who craves an adventurous life and has a voracious appetite for knowledge. I am also a lover of the arts and sciences. The studies of Anthropology, Geology, and Biology fascinate me. In my free time, I enjoy painting, sculpting, and hiking.

I feel art and human expression brings beauty to life. I trained in jazz, ballet, and modern dance for 14 years. I started sculpting 6 years ago, and I have been painting since I could dip my hand in paint. I am also a lover of the musical arts, albeit I have not proved to be musically talented. I love almost all genres of music, from metal to rap. Some of my favorite bands are Tool, A Perfect Circle, A Tribe Called Quest, Russ, Sleep, and Opeth.

Random outdoor adventures are some of my favorite times. I love hiking, camping, swimming, and just being in nature. I want to use my degree to study ways to combat climate change and protect our environment for future generations. The earth and all her majesty have always filled me with passion. I find beauty in all parts of nature, whether its growth or decay.

I look forward to reading all your posts and get to know the class through this forum.

P.S.- I am very much an animal lover. We don’t deserve dogs, they are so precious. I have on old pupper and a cat that is filled with a silent rage. I will now proceed to post adorable pictures of them.

Welcome to ENGL 1102 2:30 class!

Hello, World!

Welcome to our ENGL 1102 class blog site.  We invite you to think about Spatial Justice with us this semester as we read and write about spaces in American Culture.

We are reading three books and one movie.  Our books are:  The House on Mango Street (by Sandra Cisneros), Don’t Call Us Dead (by Danez Smith), and Becoming (by Michele Obama).  We haven’t chosen our movie yet.  We are using these texts to explore the ways that physical spaces shape us, hold us in or out, and become markers of what we are able to achieve.  It should be an interesting semester.

Remember that we are students who are using this semester to sharpen our communication skills, so sometimes our writing is still in process, an idea that Obama embraces in her book.  We are becoming who we will be.

Introduction to Dr. Perry

Katherine Perry 1

My name is Katherine Perry, and I am an Associate Professor of English at Perimeter College of Georgia State University.  I hold a Ph.D. in English from Auburn University, and I have been teaching college for almost 19 years (that includes when I was in graduate school).  I am the professor for two sections of ENGL 1102, English Composition II, this semester, and my students will be working on this blog to learn more about writing for the web, crafting small but powerful paragraphs, and learning to use images, links, and visual language to enhance their blog posts.

In addition to being an English professor, I am also a practicing poet.  My book, Long Alabama Summer, was released in December of 2017, and you can find out about any upcoming poetry readings at my website:  www.katherinedperry.com.  I am also the founder and coordinator for GSU’s Prison Education Project .  We take college-level classes into area state and federal prisons.

Finally, like everyone, I do many things, so introducing myself in three paragraphs feels like a tall order.  I am a yogini, a mother, a spouse, a Girl Scout leader, a guitarist, a walker, a camper, a traveler, a daughter, a dog lover, a civil rights activist, a friend, a reader, a cook, and a citizen of the world (and American by birth).   I am also a lot of other things.  I hope that you will enjoy this semester’s work.
